Saw a sign for barnacle parking enforcement today in Galveston. We paid our 16 bucks to avoid it.

@George-K said in Bill Maher: What we can learn from Canada, and Sweden, and others: But, here's the question, has he moved to the right, or has the left totally abandoned him. Like @Mik and the Republiccan party, not a surprise to see the other side do the same thing.

Never really listened to him for more than about 30 minutes on about half a dozen occasions. Did he really do that? Geez. He also said that coronovirus was the common cold, so, you know, not great with that stuff.

What’s the old saw? Never ascribe to conspiracy what can be more easily explained as stupidity? Insanity fits too.

@Klaus said in Calling any Excel guru: @Horace said in Calling any Excel guru: If I had to do it in general, I'd output a CSV and write a quick tool to create a new CSV as described. So I can't help That's what I would also do. Dang, that’s also what I would do. But that’s just a function of whether one is more fluent with Excel or with another scripting/programming language. :man-shrugging:

I have seen maneuvers pretty close to that, more than once. Go out to your local muni airport on a nice Saturday morning, bring the camera.

@Horace said in Mandating the SawStop: it'll make you care less about safety, which will bite you on all the other tools that don't have a safety mechanism. I understand that thinking. Let me tell you about my only injury... When working with power tools, I was always mindful about the "what if my hand slips" scenario. IOW, if I'm pushing a piece through a cutter (saw blade, router, whatever), I always kept in mind, "If my hand slips, will it slip INTO the cutter." If the answer is yes, I'd change my hand position, or use a push stick or some other safety device. So, one day, I was going to cut a large flat dovetail into the end of a piece of cherry that I would fit into a mortise at the top of a leg. You'd never see the joint, but I just thought it would be fun to see if I could do it. I chucked this piece (about ¾" by 2" by 24" into a vise, with the end of it sticking up. I had marked the lines of the dovetail out, and I got out my dovetail backsaw and started sawing away. The piece chattered a bit as I sawed, and I used my left hand to try to stabilize it. The saw jumped out of the kerf, and landed directly onto the knuckle of my left index finger causing a 2 inch cut through the skin. Fortunately, it didn't go deep, but it required a trip to the ER for some sutures. [image: 1713009263615-img_4145-large.jpeg] I'd never considered "What if the BLADE slips..."

Interesting that this should come up. In the Netflix series "Ripley," there's a lot of time devoted to Carravagio, his death, etc.
